Description:

Sweet Basil

Sweet Basil is a creative, modern American restaurant located in the heart of the Vail Village, voted Colorado’s Most Popular Restaurant by the Zagat survey.  Sweet Basil has been setting the standard for dining in Vail since 1977. The foundation for our food is rooted in the belief that great products speak for themselves. That begins with a symbiotic relationship with local farmers and ranchers who provide our kitchen with the freshest ingredients at the peak of flavor and seasonality. We treat those ingredients with a blend of sound classical technique and modern innovation, not to change the ingredient, but to maximize its potential.

With Mediterranean, Italian and Asian influences, to name a few, our food is quite versatile to say the least. We find it most accurate to describe ourselves as "a creative contemporary American Restaurant with its foundation in French cooking, utilizing many cultural influences from around the world."

Sweet Basil is also renowned for its award winning wine-list. Currently with over 500 selections, we truly offer something for everyone. Our goal is to enrich our guests experience through wine, expand and enlighten their selection process when appropriate, and to ensure that all of our service personnel are thoroughly and properly educated and trained when it comes to wine sales and service.

Vail´s premier bar program can also be found at Sweet Basil with innovative handcrafted cocktails that change with the seasons along with the finest spirits available. Our bar staff is passionate about staying on the cutting edge of the art of the ´cocktail´.

If you ask every local you meet to name the top 5 restaurants in Vail, Sweet Basil will almost certainly be on everyones list. The reason why this restaurant is so recommended is simply because they have been consistently excellent for over 30 years. It´s very hard to produce a great restaurant, and even harder to maintain that status for a prolonged period of time. I also know from having developed a restaurant in a ski town just how difficult it is to find and keep quality service team members. But Sweet Basil seems to rise above these challenges year after year. While the decor is simple, the food and quality of service is anything but. They call it "creative contemporary" food with a French foundation, and the variety and complexity of their menu items will satisfy almost anyones tastes. This is also a vegetarian friendly restaurant; however, they don´t specifically put any vegetarian entrees on the menu. Just call ahead and tell them what you like and they will go overboard to create you something special. if you only have one night to dine in Vail, I recommend you try Sweet Basil.
