The Elote Cafe delivers an upscale twist on traditional Mexican food — think fall-off-the-bone tender meats, hand-rolled tamales, and slow-simmered molé sauces. It´s located inside the historic, recently revamped Kings Ransom Sedona Hotel and offers a seasonal menu of fine Mexican favorites served in a handsome and view-filled atmosphere. Reservations are not accepted.About the Chef:Chef Jeff Smedstad, owner of Elote Cafe located in Sedona Arizona, focuses his style on the cuisine of Mexico. He spent over 15 years traveling Mexico to learn more about the food by going to markets, eating in restaurants across the country and sharing time with families in Mexico to help broaden his knowledge and gain inspiration and insight. He also incorporates sustainable, local, healthy and organic products into his restaurant to showcase his passion for food as well as responsible cooking.His award winning cuisine has been featured in many media outlets including the Arizona Republic, Phoenix Magazine, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, the Toronto Star and Sunset Magazine among others. Jeff’s highly successful Elote Cafe Cookbook, released in 2009, has sold over 8000 copies.

| Sedona is one of the most beautiful places on earth, and you would think that such a place this close to a foodie meccas such as Scottsdale, Arizona would be chock full of great restaurants, but the reality is that there are only a handful of great restaurants in this area. Fortunately, we found the Elote Cafe. It´s tucked away on the second floor of a mid-priced hotel, and the interior is best described as rustic and eclectic, but the food is amazing and the service is excellent. Chef Jeff Smedstad has recreated traditional Mexican dishes with a unique flair that will exceed even the highest expectations. The only downside is they don´t take reservations and the wait can be upwards of an hour or more. If you are impatient, try to sneak a space at the bar or the community table, but this restaurant is well worth the wait. Monday - February 25, 2013 |
