Description:
Rolando Brogi and his charming, personable, wife/chef, Giovanna Biagi, and their son/chef, Francesco, have created this wonderful restaurant. Full of warmth and informal confusion (pandemonio) the restaurant mirrors its name. The Brogi welcome their guests as if they were family, and their guests, in turn, come back again and again. My partner Bob and I have been coming here for years and feel we are family. In the evenings, they always are full. We go at lunchtime, when few people are there and are often offered tasting samples of the off menu dishes the family enjoys. Ask to sit in their lovely garden room.

If you have read my book, you will know that I place Italian restaurants at the top of my list, and Pandemonia is one of my all time favorite Italian restaurants. What I love most about this place is that it captures the very essence of a true Italian family restaurant - great food, comfortable homestyle environment, and a passionate food-loving family. Papa Rolando serves the wine and Mama Giovanna handles the guests and keeps a close watch on their son/chef Francesco. On our first visit, Mamma Giovanna walked up to our table holding a wooden crate full of fresh picked porcini mushrooms and explained to us that porcini mushrooms were in season and asked us if we would like try them. Every dish we had that night was a different play on porcini mushrooms, and from that day forward I became a porcini fanatic. If you are going to Florence, this is the one restaurant you cannot miss, especially if you are looking for an authentic Italian family dining experience. Thursday - June 7, 2012 |
